Saga Phone Selling for $5k??

Remember the Solana phone that no one bought? Yeah it’s sold out now.

Solana mobile announced on Friday that the Solana Saga had sold out. As recently as a Dec. 5 interview, Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko admitted that only about 2,500 units had been sold. So why did sales explode overnight?

The answer is the Solana memecoin – BONK.

Among the rewards available to new Solana phone owners is an allocation of 30 million BONK tokens. At the time of the first airdrop in June, BONK was at 0.0000003 per token, so about $10.

Currently trading at 0.0000193, BONK is up thousands of %, and over 800% in the last 30 days. At the $599 price of a Saga phone, it’s actually around a break even purchase right now. 

But it’s not only BONK, other projects have announced upcoming airdrops for Saga users..

Is it just a short term marketing scheme to get people to buy more phones? Maybe. But it seems to be working. And maybe this little push was all Solana needed to get Saga back into the spotlight for good.
